Mission #98 - Van Wilder

Mission #98 - Watch a Movie (50pts)

Yeah I was bored on Sunday afternoon, however, this cured it for a while. National Lampoon's Van Wilder is the story of a college student (Ryan Reynolds) that has been in school for seven years (hmm sounds vaguely familiar?), fearing graduating. Sent to get the inside scoop, the school newspaper star journalist (Tara Reid) tries to get beyond the confident outer shell of Van Wilder, and see why he really is still in school.

This movie DID hit home a little bit, although I was not nearly as popular or known (in certain circles I was, with the HGB/ARH bs), nor did I have a golf cart, but it was still a good stretch from my own life. This movie was really funny, and I love the guest spot that Tim Matheson had as Vance Wilder Sr... he played Eric 'Otter' Stratton in National Lampoon's Animal House :D

I give this one 3 and a half whatevers. And now that I think about it, whatevers sound negative. But it could be whatevers you want ;)

50 pts.

Mission #10: Make and wear five homemade t-shirts

Mission #10 - Make and Wear Five Homemade T-Shirts (600 pts).

Hmm. Okay boys and girls, I don't go out much, pretty much to work.. and then I went to BW3s three times in a week... and I can't have cameras at work (boo).. but I do have pictures of me in all the shirts. You can tell the last one because of the change in hair length and color. :-p There are a few pics of Game Olympics where I'm wearing my shirt (I think there was anyway).. and I know some people can vouch for me wearing tie dye. So... screw you guys, it took a long time to make these shirts, and I wore them and not only are the people around me tired of tie dye, but frankly so am I. I EARNED those 600 pts :D

Shirts drip drying slightly after rinsing them. Yikes that took forever.

Ugh. Even though my tie dyed clothing population has doubled in my closet, I seriously don't want to wear any for a while now. I hope this feeling doesn't happen with Jersey week, which I think will happen soon.

5 shirts.. 5 days in a row.. 600 pts.

Mission #99 - Steak 'n' Shake

Mission #99 - Eat Out (50pts)

After the APFL game, we all went to Steak 'n' Shake. I got a bowl of the Chili Deluxe, since I wasn't feeling all that good. That seems funny getting chili for an upset stomach... but anyway.. and a cherry coke. They have some of the best cherry cokes there.

I did leave a tip (as did Aaron I do believe)... our server was the crazy looking lady, but she's actually really nice. Maybe thats why she's a serving trainer now.

50 pts for eating out
50 pts for leaving a tip
100 pts total.

Mission #12 - Go to the APFL Championship Game

Mission #12 - Go to the APFL Championship Game (450 pts).

Shannon, Nicole, Aaron and I trekked it to Topeka, went to BestBuy, and then braved Taco Hell Bell (well I braved it and am now wondering if I should have or not).. and then went to the Koyotes' APFL championship game vs. the Iowa Blackhawks. Very close game... won on a field goal kicked with 11 seconds left... having the Koyotes win 26-24. We hung out on the field, and I got a shirt too.. yay for it being the end of the season, it was $5 off :D We went to Steak'n'Shake afterwards. MMmm.

450pts for going to the game.

Mission #98 - Victor/Victoria

Mission #98 - Watch a Movie (50pts)

I went to Travis' house after going to BW3s for a 3rd time this week last night, and we watched Victor/Victoria, a movie dealing with gender bending and a bit different culture than we're used to, and amazingly, it was brought to us in the early 1980s (82 to be exact)... apparently gay culture in 1934 France was fairly big.

It was weird though seeing Mary Poppins (I mean) Julie Andrews playing such a role. Getting naked in the bathroom with James Garner spying was a little weird.

Good older movie though, and pretty funny. I'd give it a 4 out of 5 whatevers.

Mission #98 - The Cable Guy

Mission #98 - Watch a Movie (50pts)

I watched The Cable Guy with Matthew Broderick and Jim Carrey on Thursday night. I had heard mixed reviews on it, but it was on tv and I was like "eh okay sure." It was very dark comedy, definitely not something I'd expect Jim Carrey to do. It was almost downright spooky to think that someone could be mentally disturbed like that.

I'd give it 3 out of 5... whatevers. :D

Mission #99 - Chili's

Mission #99 - Eat Out (50pts)

My friend Robbie (first boyfriend, actually) was coming through on his way back "home" to Minneapolis (MN), and was coming through with his folks and little brother Jamie, who had a golf tournament to play in. So he and I went to Chili's for dinner. I had the shrimp alfredo, which wasn't too bad. Wasn't the garlic shrimp alfredo from Red Lobster, thats for sure. But it wasn't bad.

It was our waitress' first night, which we had no clue until she said something. I left her like a 4 dollar tip :D

Meal = 50 pts
Tip = 100 pts

Mission #98 - Batman Begins

Mission #98 - Watch a Movie (50pts)

My ticket from Batman Begins, which I saw while at home with the family.

I went to see Batman Begins with Mom and Dad on Saturday afternoon. There is no better way to see a movie in the theatres than seeing it with the folks, especially if they pay for the ticket, popcorn AND pop. Woo!

As far as the movie goes... I'll be honest, I'd heard it was awesome but I wasn't totally sure if it was going to be, in my opinion. I knew Christian Bale was in it (points right there.)... and I think I had heard that Cillian Murphy was in it as well (even more points). I hadn't seen any of the Batman sequels since.. Batman Forever I think. (Looking back, I'd seen Batman, Batman Returns, and Batman Forever. Anyway though, Christian Bale has not been in too many notable movies (I'd seen him in a few, like American Psycho and Little Women... wow, that was quite the span of genres.)... I was a little leary of him being in such a huge role.

I was very pleasantly surprised by Bale's performance... as Bruce Wayne. As Batman himself... it wasn't quite right, looking into his dark brown eyes with the.. bat helmet? on it just felt wrong. Maybe that was due to the fact that I want to say Michael Keaton and Val Kilmer had blue eyes? I don't remember. But something felt wrong. The story was very good, although I had a lot of issues with the main issue of the movie (I won't do any spoilers.. but when you see it, you'll probably question it too). Nonetheless, the story was good, and the casting director did a very good job of picking actors for the roles. There were quite a few very good actors in this movie, including Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Liam Neeson and Gary Oldham (in fact I didn't even RECOGNIZE him as Gary Oldham). I'm not going to say the same for Katie Holmes, because in fact, she is NOT a good actress. But back to picking some not as well known actors... the choices of Christian Bale and Cillian Murphy were quite unexpected. It was actually kind of refreshing to see some actors not normally chosen for such parts. Example, I would have NEVER chosen Cillian Murphy, mainly because I had never heard of him prior to seeing 28 Days Later last summer. I think he was wonderful in the role of Dr. Jonathan Crane though. Ironically though, Murphy actually tried for the part of Batman, but the casting crew felt he'd be better suited for Dr. Crane.

Anyway though I AM saying that anyone who hasn't seen this movie yet should do so. It was way better than any of the previous Batman franchise movies. I'd say its also one of my more favorite movies of the summer (granted the only ones I've seen this summer were SWep3: Revenge of the Sith, Madagascar and this one... I'd say it'd go Batman, Madagascar then Revenge of the Sith for my order of preference this summer.).

50 pts for seeing a movie I had never seen
100 pts for seeing it at a theatre

Mission #69 - Visit a family member more than 50 miles away

Mission #69: Visit a family member more than 50 miles away. (500pts)

I went to Hays on Friday after work to see my family. I had a few days off and said "what the heck, I'll go home for a few." So I did. My mom made pot roast with potatoes and carrots for me when I got home (mmm)... and we watched some movies, including Batman Begins. I will write about that later though! We got a new tire for my car (yay I didn't have to buy it)... and then we had Guiterrez for lunch on Sunday before I braved some storms coming back (which unfortunately I could not count for points because the way back home from where the storms were WAS the interstate, how lame is that?) and attempting to go camping (but alas, it rained and stormed all night).

500 pts for visiting a family member more than 50 miles away (159 to be exact)
