Mission #98 - Wedding Crashers

Mission #98 - Watch a Movie (50 pts)

On my afternoon off, I went to see Wedding Crashers. Funny guys Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson (someone get me a towel to wipe the drool from my chin, please) star in this comedy about two guys taking advantage of women's emotions stemming from weddings, when things go awry. I would tell you what, but unfortunately that'd be a spoiler.

There is a lot of humor similar to Anchorman and Dodgeball (seeing as how its the same cast that keeps showing up), but its different subject matter makes it funny in its own way.

Yeah it was weird feeling going to see it by myself.

50 pts for seeing a movie I hadn't seen
100 pts for seeing it in a movie theatre

Mission #42 - Jersey Week

Mission #42 - Jersey Sweater Week (600 pts)

Hockey players wear SWEATERS.

Anyway. I refused to wear my Forsberg sweater out of the sheer fact he's a slave to the American dollar.

I wore my other 5 Avalanche sweaters though, and people at work were looking at me funny. My last supervisor, an Avs fan, noticed this (bing! 100 bonus pts!) and asked what was up. I started last week Friday and ended today, Thursday.

Mission #99 - Pizza Hut

Mission #99 - Eat Out (50 pts)

I went to eat with Shannon, Nicole, Jenette, Chris and Aaron at Pizza Hut, rather than our normal Tuesday destination of BW3s because the darn students are coming back and eating at our places keeping us from getting in. Boo.

I did get to eat some tasty supreme stuffed crust pizza though, and left a tip.

Mission #98 - Kung Fu Hustle

Mission #98 - Watch a movie (50 pts)

While at home this weekend I watched Kung Fu Hustle, a foreign film that apparently has some sort of a cult following here in the States. *shrugs* This truly makes me wonder about Chinese culture from films, but I really can't make any basises (basii?) on it because it was supposed to be set in the 1940s. Subtitled, I had to pay relatively close attention to it or else.. yeah I couldn't understand what they were saying.

The best way to explain this movie is maybe The Matrix meets West Side Story meets Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. Or maybe you should just rent it yourself.

50 pts for watching a new movie.

Mission #69 - Visit a family member more than 50 miles away

Mission #69 - Visit a family member more than 50 miles away (500pts)

Saturday I left for the big city (*coughs* sarcasm!) of Hays to see my family for my birthday. I had lunch with them, and then we watched some movies (one of which I will write about later).. ate some more... watched more movies... slept, got up Sunday, ate my birthday meal (mmm fried chicken, mashed potatoes w/ onion gravy, creamed corn, and peach jello with peach slices).. opened my care package (loving the RAM upgrade, sheets, food and sheets!), and finished watching a movie.

Then they said "go home."

*sigh* Work comes early early tomorrow. Yuckie. But I will post about one more thing before bed and testing out the RAM a bit.

Mission #99 - Carlos O'Kelly's

Mission #99 - Carlos O'Kelly's

For Aaron's and my birthdays, we went to Carlos O'Kelly's at the mall, with Shannon, Nicole, Chris, Jenette, Michelle and Rhonda.

I've always been a fan of Carlos. I was happy when I moved to Manhattan to find out there was one here (we'd had one in Hays for probably.. 7-8 years now?). I pretty much always get the same thing too... the Spinach and Mushroom Enchiladas. mmmm.

Project BSE handicap...

I was thinking... a lot of the folks involved with Project Best Summer Ever were able to spend their entire summer working on missions. However, some of us work 40 hours a week... yeah. It makes for earning points a lot more difficult as there may not be time to take long car trips to visit friends, stay up all night (especially when you have to be at work in the morning at 7:30am), etc.

Based on my calculations, PBSE started on May 14, and ends on Aug 21 (classes begin on Aug 22 at KSU), which equals 100 days (14 weeks, 2 days). 100 days x 24 hours = 2400 hours. I began working on June 6th, working 40 hours a week. Of these 11 weeks approximately I worked 40 hours a week, which equals 440 hours unavailable to BSE missions. 2400/1960 (2400 hours - 440 hours = 1960) =1.22.

My belief is that I shall multiply my total points by 1.22 to give a very small handicap (I was unable to take vacation time as I was not allowed to even TAKE vacation days and could not make trips longer than a night or so, and yet I still drove back). So my current points, along with the handicap would be as follows:
11500 pts x 1.22 = 14030 points.

I think thats only fair, right?

Pics - The Famed 8/6

8/6/05 - Knickerbockers Lincoln NE

Here is another place that has semi-crappy lighting for photos. Had a couple decent ones... but not really.

I might have had a few more however I was working merch.. yeah, running back and forth between the stage and the booth. *shrugs* its all good though. :D

Pics - The Famed 8/3

8/3/05 - PJs Manhattan KS

Ahhh pictures from quite possibly the worst place to take pictures at a venue. I love PJs. Hate the lighting. Boo.

Enjoy.

Mission #100 - Cook a New Food

Mission #100 - Cook a New Food (50 pts)

So I made my famous chocolate chip cookies for The Famed, however knowing that some of the guys are vegetarian/vegan, I tried a new recipe (Sorry Groebe, no PB cookies this time.) I made a few modifications to the recipe, but I think they turned out pretty good.

For the nonvegans out there... these would be tasty for breakfast with a glass of milk, I do believe. These are also almost fat free at 0.3g of fat per cookie.

Applesauce Oatmeal Cookies

3 c. oatmeal
1 c. whole wheat flour (or 2 c. oatmeal and 2 c. whole wheat flour,
whatever combination you want)
1 t. soda
1/4 t. nutmeg
1 c. unsweetened applesauce
1 c. sugar (or less)
1 t. vanilla
2/3 c. raisins or dried apples or dried cranberries

Combine the oatmeal, flour, soda and nutmeg. Mix the applesauce, sugar and vanilla and add to the dry ingredients. Stir in the dried fruit. Roll in small balls and smash to 1/4 " thickness on the cookie sheet. Bake at 275 degrees for 22-25 minutes. Makes about 50 cookies

I cooked mine for about 20 minutes and they were browning nicely already. I used dried apples that I chopped up finely. After making the cookies, they stayed soft in a ziploc.

Making the cookies: 50 pts
50 pts per person eating the new food: 50 x 5 = 250 (Groebe, Bryan, Justin, Dave, and Wes)
Total points: 300

Mission #54: Dye my hair

Mission #54: Dye my hair (300pts)

I'm really getting lame about posting these things, aren't I? It'd help if I would read things thoroughly as well.

Anyway about 3 weeks ago I got my hair redyed, but with red (that are now a nice coppery orange) streaks. I haven't worn a hat at any point in all this... and one of my coworkers whom I don't know (there are like 400 of us at WW... I mean Alltel) said it looked nice when I got back to work that day. I walk by her cubicle every day getting to mine. *shrugs*

300 pts for dying it
200 pts for being firetruck red/copper orange now
200 pts for the random cubicle farm product saying it looked nice

Mission #26: Watch a complete anime series. (altered) - Firefly

Mission #26: Watch a complete anime series. (500pts) (altered)

Okay. I cannot stand anime... and since this is MY summer (not yours, mine!)... I'm changing up this to be "The series must have at least 12 episodes in it. I must start and finish the series in less than three days. For every full day less that I complete the series in I get 100 bonus points.(So if I watch the series in one day it is worth 700 points)."

I also watched Fox's short-lived (more like murdered) series Firefly, a futuristic show about space travel and cowboys. Seriously you'll just have to watch the show to understand. There were a good mix of characters, and plot lines that you actually had to watch to understand. I actually had to re-watch two episodes because I wasn't paying enough attention and couldn't figure out what I was watching.

Fox butchered the series and ran them out of the order intended. They literally ran them ep 1.. 2...3.. when it was really supposed to be in this order (they are in this order on the DVD set, but if you download them, this is the order)
Serenity (parts 1 & 2)
The Train Job
Bushwhacked
Shindig
Safe
Our Mrs. Reynolds
Jaynestown
Out of Gas
Ariel
War Stories
Trash
The Message
Heart of Gold
Objects in Space

Anyway.. it was brought back to the Sci-Fi network this summer.. in anticipation for the movie coming out in late... September I do believe. Anyway though there is a rather large jump from the show to the movie, apparently there is a comic book series that fills in the gaps. *shrugs*

It took me all 3 days to watch. *sigh*
500 pts.

Mission #26: Watch a complete anime series (altered) - The Office

Mission #26: Watch a complete anime series. (500pts) (altered)

For this mission I watched the BBC's The Office (predecessor to NBC's The Office, and honestly the BBC version is SOOOO much more funny). It had 12 regular episodes, two extra episodes (what happened a year after the BBC had visited The Office) and then an extra couple hours of interviews. My friends were right, the first few episodes were horribly slow, but it picked up and left me on an emotional rollercoaster. I won't reveal any spoilers because that is not nice... but yeah, good stuff.

I do believe I'll be getting these discs through Netflix (or borrowing them from Jesse again) and backing them up.

I watched all of the episodes in a day and a half (drat!)...
500 pts for watching the series
100 pts for getting them watched in a day and a half
600 pts total.

More updates coming soon, I promise. :D

So some random-ness with this blog:

I saw The Famed last Friday night at the Royal Grove in Lincoln NE. Pictures are located here.

If you search for "bored girls in topeka" in Yahoo, my page is listed #1. I'm not sure what to think on this.

If you search for "van wilder + pictures + shirt off" in Yahoo, this blog is listed as #5. I didn't have any pictures of Ryan without his shirt on. I should maybe change that. That is hot (Alanis Morrisette is a lucky gal!)

43% of the browsers visiting this blog are Firefox. Thats neat. What isn't neat is the 51% that are IE. This makes me sad.

I feel like watching some Homestar Runner now. Because I'm sad you're browsing with IE.
